Estimated costs typically associated with filing a patent application with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) 

Patentability search fees:

• Patent search preparation fees:  Typically 1-2 hours at $325.00 per hour

• Patent search fees:  Half day search $800.00,  Full day search $1,400.00

• Patent search review:  Typically 1-4 hours at $325.00 per hour, depending on the number of documents to be reviewed

Provisional patent application fees:

• Preparation of provisional patent application:  Typically between $1,500 to $2,500.00*  

• USPTO fees (see below)

Nonprovisional patent application fees:

• Preparation of nonprovisional patent application:  Starting at $5,500*

• Preparation of formal drawings:  $500.00 - $1,500.00**

• Response to an Examiner's Office Action:  $325.00 per hour

Design Patents:

• Preparation of a design patent application: Typically $1,500.00

• Preparation of formal drawings:  $1,500.00**
